6 Value Factors to evaluate a good pearl

Pearls are as unique as fingerprints. Each pearl has its own characteristics, valued by 6 factors:Nacre Quality, Luster, Color/Overtone Strength, Surface Quality, Shape, and Size.

1. Luster and iridescence- the stronger luster of a pearl is means the better it’ll look, and the pearl would have a perfect nacre layer with nice thickness.

2. The thickness and quality of the nacre- better nacre means a long life span of the pearl, which supports the pearl to shine brighter and longer.

3. Color of the pearl- based on the original color of the pearl plus the tint tone of the pearl, can determine the pearl’s overall aesthetic feeling.

4. The clarity on the surface- means how clean the surface is, big defects can directly affect a pearl’s grading.

5. ShapeRound pearls are the gold standard when it comes to cultured pearl jewelry. These are the most conventional of all pearl shapes, and what almost every pearl shopper thinks of when they think of a classic pearl necklace.

After perfectly round pearls, the next most popular shapes are smooth Drops, then Buttons and finally Baroques.

The most important consideration is that the pearl features evenly symmetrical shapes, which are most pleasing to the eye and more easily used in most pearl jewelry styles

6. Size- the sizing of the pearl can determine the price, usually the bigger the pearl is, means a higher value it will be.
